However, seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a specific variety of depression that is more than just the “winter blues.” The feelings of depression from SAD are associated with a change in season -- typically in late fall or early winter, but sometimes even in spring and summer.

SAD typically occurs more frequently in women than in men, and chiefly in younger adults (ages 18- 30).
