Fresh Ink
by Celeste Lyles (Wife of Jim Lyles) I (Celeste Lyles) received the $500 Raven Tattoo gift certificate for Christmas from my husband, Jim Lyles (Mix A), who won it in the Crest Foods Benevlance raffle. He is too chicken to get one himself, but knew that I had been wanting a 2nd tattoo for some time now. Aunt Sue (Osborne) and I had been talking about going together for a tattoo well over a year now, just needed to make a decision on what we wanted and do it! This pulled the trigger – I worked on my design idea, went to the shop and met with Matt. He was AMAZING, super creative! I set the ap- pointment up for Saturday February 9th. Next – getting Sue to make an appointment with me to get hers. She also reached out to Matt about her design. The 9th arrived quickly. The appointment was at 12:30pm – so we arrived, he talked us through the process and we determined that since Sue (who was nervous) should go first since she hadn’t had one done before. Their shop is super clean, well-lit and comfortable. After drawing the design, Matt puts it on carbon paper, then he shows you placement – he asked a lot of questions since it was on the shoulder – so placement wouldn’t put a strap through the middle of the design etc. They are very environmentally friendly with the products that they use. We got to watch movies to take our mind off it and Matt answered our questions. Sue got a beautiful Celtic knot on her right shoulder. She has always believed that she was 100% Irish in her heri- tage (even though she is not) so she wanted something to represent this culture. She originally thought it would be a Celtic cross until she found out just how long that design would take. I got a tie-dye heart with music notes around the outside on my right shoulder. The colors used all have special meaning to me: Blue – my maiden name is Blumeyer, so in honor of my Mom/Brother who are gone and my son (Wade) goes to University of Kentucky – Big Blue Nation. Purple – my favorite color and Wade’s first swim team color. Red – Wade’s favorite color and his last swim team color (which he made nationals with). Orange – Jim’s favorite color and Wade’s High School Swim team color. Ivory/Burgundy – throat cancer survivor colors for Jim. Music Notes – music makes me happy! I can’t say enough for how clean, detailed and patient Matt was. We finished up around 4pm, spending less than $200.00 between us – so more ink to come!! I made the appointment to have my old tattoo brightened back up. If anyone is wanting one I strongly recommend RAVEN Tattoo in Dixon. They are wonderful! Matt was the artist we had, but there is another artist, Zack, in the shop too. Check them out on Facebook, they post photos often.
