ActoN-Boxborough SCHOOL BUILDING PROJECT For the C.T. Douglas, Paul P. Gates and the C. Huebner Early Childhood Program
The Acton-Boxborough Regional School District is very pleased to inform the public that the Douglas Gates CHECP School Building Project (the Project) did not suffer any negative impacts from the pandemic this past year. The Project continues to move forward and is currently on schedule and on budget. It is hard to imagine but approximately 12 short months ago the District broke ground on the project with our partners Consigli Construction. The first piece of steel went vertical in October and the final piece was erected on May 18, 2021 at the ABRSD topping off ceremony . With this, the structure of the building is firmly in place and the team is now beginning to construct the outside envelope. To keep yourself up to date on the project and all major milestones you can follow along using the building project website at abschools.org. The District is very excited about the educational program we will be able to deliver in this new state-of-the-art facility. The building is designed to perform as a triple net zero facility, net zero waste, net zero water, and net zero energy . This fully electrified building will have no carbon footprint and as a result will perform very highly in metrics related to indoor air quality, energy use intensity, and ambient decibel measurements to suppress background noise. All of these factors should have positive correlations to improved student outcomes. Over the next school year the construction team will complete the construction of the new building and will move in students and staff in August 2022 . From August 2022 to August 2023 the construction team will de-construct the two old facilities at the site, the old Gates School and the old Douglas School, and will complete the new parking lots and play areas. The final completion date is expected to be the summer of 2023. Thank you to the citizens of Acton and Boxborough for their continued support, the Massachusetts School Building Authority, and the members of the School Building Committee for the countless hours they have contributed to making this a successful school building project.
