Packaging – High Integrity Welds In the final step, cells are bundled into a package and often connected with a copper, steel, aluminum, or copper-aluminum composite bus bar. High integrity welds are needed to avoid blowholes that can cause battery failure. Novanta’s dynamic focusing module in 3-axis scan heads can be used from a single position to direct the laser beam at complex angles to ensure a solid weld. Combined with laser wobble technology the result is consistent, deep, spat-free welds.
