PLACEMENT OF OPTIONAL PRIMARY AIR CONTROL FIREBRICK GARN® units are not shipped with a control firebrick. Most seasoned cord wood will not require the use of a primary air control firebrick. It is intended to be used when burning fuels that are very dry or have large surface areas (small wood). The position of the control firebrick reduces the amount of primary air reaching the fire. The control brick will minimize “flash burning” which can cause the GARN® to puff. The following figures show a 2” firebrick laid flat, for a moderate deflection of the primary air, or stood on end for maximum deflection. Position the brick approximately 3” to 5” from the primary nozzle. In lieu of a firebrick use a small log.
OR USE A LOG
DO NOT PLACE THE CONTROL BRICK TOO CLOSE TO THE NOZZLE . This will greatly decrease the performance of the GARN®. NEVER CLOSE-OFF the primary air nozzle as this
will cause warping and minor cracking of the air collar.
