GARN® GN2000 WHS | Operator Manual

K. EMISSIONS CERTIFICATION AND COMPLIANCE INFORMATION This section of the manual is provided in order to comply with the requirements of the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s ( EPA) NSPS 40 CFR Part 60. As of March 15, 2015 Federal Regulations regarding wood heating equipment were passed that require all residential wood heating equipment to pass specific minimum standards for wood emissions. Read the NSPS regulation here:

http://www.regulations.gov/contentStreamer?objectId=0900006481a45ee1&disposition=attachment&contentT ype=pdf.

The regulation for residential emissions limits are applied in 2 steps:

• Step 1: By May 15 th , 2015 all wood equipment must have max. emissions of 0.32 lbm/mmBtu output. • Step 2: By May 15 th , 2020 all wood equipment must have max. emissions of 0.15 lbm/mmBtu output.

How does this affect GARN equipment? GARN currently produces 4 wood heating models (WHS-1000, WHS- 1500, WHS-2000, and WHS-3200). All units are FULLY compliant with all appropriate US regulations, testing standards and NSPS emissions limits in force on the date of this document. The WHS-3200 is not considered a residential wood heater; therefore, does not have to comply with the NSPS residential emission limit.

Mandatory EPA Wording:

“ This wood heater needs periodic inspection and repair for proper operation. It is against federal regulations to operate this wood heater in a manner inconsistent with operating instructions in this manual.’’

Model and Compliance Status: The following table shows compliance status for the various GARN Wood Heating models. There is no EPA numerical emission limit for any GARN WHS model used in a non-residential setting , per October 2016 EPA Regulation NESHAP, 40 CFR Part 36, Table 1 pages 4 & 5 (covers biomass equipment with an output less than 10 million BTUH). All models are tested with cordwood using the appropriate cordwood testing standard. The standards listed in the “Compliance Status” column are the standards to which GARN WHS units were tested.
