INSTALLATION : BYPASS/SIDE-STREAM FILTER INSTRUCTIONS

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

The bypass/side-stream filter must be mounted in the piping and water that directly connects to the GARN unit. The purpose is to remove particles from the GARN tank. We recommend only 1 method of installation: Independent Piping Circuit. In an Independent circuit a dedicated pump is installed that circulates water from the tank through the filter and back to the tank. We recommend using a Taco-0015, 3 speed circulating pump (shown at right) with the filter or a Grundfos 15-58. An equivalent pump from another manufacturer can also be used. Use the pump on the HIGH setting.

ALLOWABLE FLOWRATE AND SPECIFICATION OF THE BYPASS FILTER:

Connections: ¾” FPT (inlet and outlet)

Filter Material: The filters are made from a high temperature polyester string, wound around a stainless steel core. The filters are rated to 300°F. The filter housing is rated to 200°F. DO NOT use locally available filters with a plastic core as the core will soften, melt or disintegrate eliminating its filtering function and possibly plugging pumps or heat exchangers.

Allowable Range of Filter Flowrate:

1 to 10 GPM

PIPING CONFIGURATIONS:

The following diagrams show acceptable ways to install the bypass filter. Choose the configuration best suited for the application and space requirements. Dielectrically isolate the pump and piping circuit. This is especially important if the piping is copper. A dielectric union or short length of PEX pipe provide effective isolation.

WE RECOMMEND PIPING THE BYPASS FILTER AS AN INDEPENDENT CIRCUIT AND USING A TACO-0015, 3 SPEED CIRCULATING PUMP (OR EQUIVALENT) WITH THE FILTER . Run the pump on the HIGH speed setting.
