INSTALLATION : INSULATING YOUR GARN®

INSULATING YOUR GARN®

When firing your GARN® with a tank temperature below 70°F, condensate water will leak out of the upper cleanout and/or flue. Water will also leak from the overflow pipe due to thermal expansion. Both are normal. It is STRONGLY suggested to perform the first two cold firings before the unit is insulated or enclosed. Damage or staining of sheetrock may occur otherwise.

USE ONLY NON-COMBUSTIBLE STRUCTURAL MATERIALS WHEN CONSTRUCTING AN INSULATED ENCLOSURE FOR YOUR GARN® (sheetrock, galvanized metal studs and sheet

metal for all wall surfaces). Do not use: wood, plywood, particle board, oriented strand board, etc.

USE ONLY THE FOLLOWING INSULATION MATERIALS: Vermiculite or perlite, dense- packed, or blown-in non-binder fiberglass or rock wool, unfaced glass fiber batts, un-faced

rock wool batts, or polyisocyanurate (polyiso) foam board.

AMOUNT OF INSULATION

When insulating your unit please maintain the following minimum R values. Note that the greater the R value, the lower the heat loss, thus extending the time between firings. Unit efficiency ratings are based on the following: • Set the unit on 2” of polyisocyuanurate foam insulation (R = 10). • Minimum R values: Front Rear Sides Top 15 20 20 25 (average) • Provide ¾” clearance around blower housing, air collar, etc. Stuff these areas with un-faced fiberglass. • Stuff un-faced fiberglass in the 4 “corners” of the unit between the vertical sides of the insulation and the tank top.
