Demand for aviation maintenance professionals will top 754,000 over the next 20 years. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is preparing a qualified workforce to meet the need with certification programs and undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Our aviation maintenance science (AMS) “classroom” is a 48,000-square-foot building that is home to labs for airframe and powerplant (A&P) technicians. Additional resources include a hangar, turbine engine test cells and aircraft. In the FAR Part 145 engine repair station, students overhaul engines for the university’s fleet under the watchful eyes of highly experienced professors. Students can choose a concentration in flight, maintenance management, safety science, or avionics cybertechnology and security. We also offer an avionics line maintenance minor. Coursework includes avionics system installation, wiring concepts and troubleshooting for ADS-B, satellite communications/connectivity, navigation and automated flight systems. Skilled technicians are ready to work for manufacturers, airlines, commercial fleets and contractors who overhaul and rebuild aircraft. Increasingly, graduates work in avionics, focused on unmanned aerial vehicles. Embry-Riddle is introducing a U.S. Department of Defense SkillBridge program to help separating service members, veterans and military spouses transition to careers in aviation maintenance. After completing this nine-week program, graduates will interview with industry partners. Additionally, Embry-Riddle’s Worldwide Campus offers Part 65 education and an online Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Maintenance.

We are one of five U.S. universities to earn National Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security certification with a special designation in secure software development.

Microsoft Software & Systems Academy (MSSA) Microsoft and Embry-Riddle launched their MSSA partnership in 2015. Through this 18-week program, veterans earn college credit and are prepared to go to work as server and cloud administrators, cloud applications developers or cybersecurity administrators. Graduates interview with Microsoft or with representatives from 500 hiring partners, including Amazon, Oracle, Dell, Expedia and Southwest Airlines. More than 80% of students who enter the program without a college degree triple their earning potential. Aviation Maintenance Technology SkillBridge Program Embry-Riddle is collaborating with industry to address a shortage of skilled aviation maintenance technicians. This skills gap has the potential to jeopardize safety, raise maintenance costs and delay departures. As an authorized organization to the U.S. Department of Defense SkillBridge Program, we are helping separating service members, veterans and military spouses transition to civilian careers in aviation maintenance. Graduates of this new nine-week program are guaranteed interviews with leading aerospace hiring partners.

The John Mica Engineering and Aerospace Innovation Complex (MicaPlex) centralizes specialty labs and business incubator services at the Embry-Riddle Research Park in Florida. Faculty, industry partners and 17 disruptive enterprises are advancing long-range, remotely piloted aerial systems, lightweight battery technology for aerial platforms, smart sensors for turbine engine diagnostics and a space tug. The U.S. Navy is using our high- fidelity, large-scale, fully instrumented subsonic wind tunnel to assess risks caused by airwake when helicopters land on ships. Our Next Generation (NextGen) FAA Testbed is improving the safety and efficiency of National Airspace System management, including air traffic control upgrades. Our Next-Generation ERAU Advanced Research (NEAR) Lab provides consulting services, including simulations and data analysis, to the private sector and the Federal Aviation Administration. The Eagle Flight Research Center (EFRC) is developing hybrid turbine/ electric aircraft, including electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) designs and power systems for urban air mobility vehicles. EFRC propulsion technology has earned two U.S. patents and patents from Great Britain, Germany and France. Patents are pending in Brazil and Canada. The Robertson Safety Institute includes an aviation center, archives, an aircraft investigation lab and labs dedicated to materials testing, ergonomics and industrial hygiene.
