As a leader in aviation and aerospace innovation, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is uniquely positioned to provide extensive research support for the human-machine interface technologies essential to the next generation of commercial airliners.

Number of UAS registered in the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration 250 1.5 MIL Number of papers our faculty have published covering human factors, engineering and aviation

We have the expertise, research capability, and infrastructure to study information processing, situational awareness, training, and flight-deck performance issues. We recognize that new interface designs will require significant testing as well as sweeping changes to flight decks. The insights of our interdisciplinary team can provide solutions with a focus on human-machine interface. Embry-Riddle is ideally suited to lead research in this rapidly emerging field. Our faculty experts have provided leadership to relevant Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics (RTCA) committees. Our state-of-the-art research facilities support experimental flight testing, aircraft modifications for FAA certification, design and testing of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), development and verification of high-fidelity (up to Level D) flight-data models used in engineering and training simulators, and prototype engineering solutions to advance eco-friendly aviation alternatives. Highlights: /// Expert faculty members in consumer perceptions research, unmanned aerial vehicles, human factors, and human-machine interfaces /// The Next-generation Embry-Riddle Applied Research (NEAR) Lab is a research and development enterprise providing software engineering, systems engineering and modeling and simulation services /// Embry-Riddle is working to help safely integrate UAS into the National Airspace and advancing awareness of the need for aviation English proficiency /// Our comprehensive aviation research infrastructure and expertise do not exist at other institutions of higher education /// Our interdisciplinary research teams can go deep inside the issues and opportunities that surround human-machine interface on the flight deck
