F EATURE THE CHELTENHAM AND SOUTH WEST SYNDICATE

respectively in his only two starts in bumpers (at Warwick and Kempton) and, at the third time of asking, got off the mark at Uttoxeter on Saturday 22 August to win his bumper impressively. He went off 5-4 favourite and confirmed this by winning with plenty in hand. He has since run over hurdles and, although running slightly ‘greenly’, has shown us plenty and is no doubt an exciting prospect to watch over the next season as he progresses and learns his job. All in all, we have a very exciting team and with the addition of access benefits to another huge National Hunt Racing Festival, this is an excellent time to be joining us. Shares for the 2021-22 Season of the Cheltenham and South West Syndicate are now on sale, so if you are interested, or would like to find out more, contact our Syndicate Manager Hannah Hawkins on hannah.hawkins @thejockeyclub.co.uk.

‘Derek’ as he is more familiarly known, is the newest edition to the syndicate and is trained in Lambourn by Harry Whittington. He is a striking four-year- old chestnut gelding by Getaway and out of Hard Luck, an Old Vic mare. He won his Irish point-to-point in March 2020 showing plenty of stamina and a turn of foot. He has had the form of this race franked multiple times with the horses that finished second and third that day both going on to win this side of the Irish Sea. In his two runs for us, Derek finished second in his debut Novices’ hurdle at Aintree back in November, beaten by Wilde About Oscar, a very well-respected individual in the Skelton’s string and fifth at a very heavy-going Chepstow most recently. Retained from the previous 2018-20 Syndicate, we have Hes No Trouble with Kim Bailey who, unless you have been

living under a rock for the past few months, we all know to have been having a fantastic season. Hes No Trouble is a two-time winner for us last season and underwent a minor wind operation in February 2020 after a run on heavy ground at Ludlow exposed signs of weakness. He came back this season to run over fences and has never really had the better ground he so needs but has put up some commendable efforts to finish fifth at Wetherby on his first appearance and fourth at Huntingdon (his favourite course!) more recently. Our third horse – Diamond River – is a flashy individual who is in training with none other than the six-time Champion Trainer Nicky Henderson. He was slightly unlucky at the start of his career, sustaining an injury at home on the gallops, however, he made up for lost time finishing third and second
