Dear fellow NY REALTOR ® , The Fall Business Meetings are fast approaching and we’re excited about the great meetings, education sessions, networking events and charitable offerings we have lined up for you. I fully anticipate you’ll leave Turning Stone with new, actionable ideas to boost your business, insights about the industry and many new or renewed connections with your fellow REALTORS ® – all while getting the satisfaction of providing your input about the direction of our association. The meetings will kickoff on Sunday with the ever- popular Legal Update followed by NYSAR’s new #TechKNOW event. (Think Ted Talk- formatted sessions geared specifically toward your business.) Join me at Sunday’s President’s Reception for a cocktail, but plan to wake up bright and early Monday morning for YPN’s CE session on teams. In addition to the 2018 REALTOR ® of the Year announcement, this year’s General Session will be particularly special with Carl Carter, Jr. delivering a keynote presentation titled: “Your Safety is Non-Negotiable: The Beverly Carter Story.” While you’ll work hard during the day, Monday and Tuesday night both offer time to get social at the RPAC Karaoke Night and the YPN Golf Social. Finally, I hope you’ll take time out of your schedule to volunteer at NYSAR’s Habitat for Humanity Home in a Box Build on Monday and Tuesday. Details can be found inside. This new, free session will feature five TED-Talk style presentations to keep you engaged, informed and even entertained with the interactive live polling. NEW Fall Legal Update This free, 1.5 hour CE session will provide the latest information for New York licensed brokers, managers and agents. NYSAR’s General Counsel Anthony Gatto, Esq. will cover a wide array of legal issues critical to reducing risk in your real estate practice. Topics may include: recent court and DOS decisions; advertising; fair housing; agency; and much more. Pre-registration is required to receive CE credit and ensure adequate seating. First-come, first-served. Who is Moving My Cheese? Overhaul of the Appraisal World – What is Our Future? (3 hours CE pending) This course will cover the history of the appraisal profession as well as current laws and standards. Designed for appraisers, brokers and agents, attendees will leave with a better understanding of recent changes to the profession and how it impacts clients. Agency responsibilities will also be addressed. Pre-registration and additional $50 fee required. WCR Luncheon All WCR members are invited to this networking luncheon. General Session This must-attend session will include President CJ DelVecchio’s State of the Association address, the announcement of the 2018 REALTOR ® of the Year and a keynote address by Carl Carter, Jr. Instructor Development Program Instructors and members interested in creating new courses will benefit from Roseann Farrow’s session about course writing. You’ll follow a checklist to transition your concept into a reality. Pre-registration and $25 fee required. Young Professionals Network presents: How to Operate a Team in New York CE session Learn how to properly operate a Team in New York pursuant to current laws, rules and regulations. Anthony Gatto, Esq. will address: Team agreements; advertising; commissions; personal assistants; Team names; and more. Earn 1.5 hours of free CE credit. Multiple Listing Issues & Policies Committee Melanie Wyne, senior policy representative for NAR, will speak about her participation in the June 2018 FTC/ DOJ Workshop about competition in the residential real estate brokerage area and provide an update on what has occured since the workshop. Carl Carter, Jr., is a REALTOR ® and the Founder of the Beverly Carter Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to improving agent safety. His mom, REALTOR ® Beverly Carter, lost her life at the hands of two clients in 2014. NYSAR shall own all rights, including copyrights in and to the photo/video media. Cancellation Policy: Registrations for the paid CE sessions may be canceled and payment will be refunded up until Friday, September 21. After September 21, no refunds will be given. YPN Golf Social: The registration fee is a donation to the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
RPAC disclaimer: Contributions are not deductible for federal income tax purposes. Contributions to RPAC are voluntary and used for political purposes. The amount suggested is merely a guideline and you may contribute more or less than the suggested amount. You may refuse to contribute without reprisal and the National Association of REALTORS or any of its state associations or local boards will not favor or disfavor any member because of the amount contributed. 70 percent of each contribution is used by the State PAC to support state and local political candidates. Until your state reaches its RPAC goal, 30 percent is sent to National RPAC to support Federal candidates and is charged against you limits under 2 U.S.C. 441a; after the state reaches its RPAC goal, it may elect to retain your entire contribution for use in supporting state and local candidates.
