It is not a requirement that the former home be disposed of, however the new home must become the sole or main residence of the employee and his or her family. COPYRIGHT © 2021 THE CHARTERED INSTITUTE OF PAYROLL PROFESSIONALS Allowable expenses and benefits include the cost of disposing of the existing home: • legal fees and services • advertising, estate agent and auctioneer’s fees and services • disconnection of services to existing property (electricity, gas, water and telephone) • costs incurred in redeeming loans raised to purchase existing home • cost in redeeming loans secured on the existing home • insurance, maintenance, rent and security provision of existing property left empty prior to sale. Travel and subsistence: • family visits to new location and when the actual move takes place • own travel and accommodation where required to commute until transfer of home is completed • temporary accommodation where former home left before occupation of new home takes place • accommodation and travel for child (under 19) required to stay at former, or to move to new, location in advance to maintain continuity of education. Costs in acquiring new home: • legal fees and services including Stamp Duty and Land Registry fees • loan arrangement costs • surveys and valuations • costs in connecting services. carpets, curtains and cookers disposed of, less the value of any sale made, provided they are unsuitable for installation in the new home. It should be noted that this condition requires the disposal of old goods. Relocation packages are not available for the fitting out of a second home.
