Prior to 15th December 2002 (babies expected on or after 30th April 2003) the maximum was 18 weeks. Return to work If the employee wishes to return before the end of her 52nd week of leave she is required to give a minimum of eight weeks (56 days) notice of her date of return to work when plans change (28 days prior to April 2007). No printing, copying or reproduction permitted. Between April 2003 and Expected Weeks of Childbirth (EWCs) of 31st March 2007 or earlier there was a 26 week service qualification for entitlement to Additional Maternity Leave. SHARED PARENTAL LEAVE All employees have a right to shared parental leave since 5th April 2015. After the compulsory 2 or 4 weeks maternity leave the remaining period of up to 48 or 50 weeks of leave with up to 37 week’s pay can be shared between both parents. There is no longer and right to take additional Statutory Paternity Pay and leave. Parents are able to take shared parental leave simultaneously and have breaks between their periods of leave as long as all of the leave has been taken by the day of the child’s first birthday or 52 weeks from the date of the adoption.
