It comprised two parts: • a care component for those who needed help with personal care • a mobility component for those who needed help in getting about (not available for those under age 3 (age 5 pre 9th April 2001)). These are assessed on a points system based on how much the health condition or disability affects daily living or mobility. The condition/disability needs to have existed for three months at the point of claim and to be likely to exist for a further nine months. This time dependency does not apply to those with a terminal illness. No printing, copying or reproduction permitted. Personal Independence Payment has two components: • daily living • mobility.
