Linking provision - there are set of linking letters supplied to claimants coming off ESA and returning to work that reduce an employer’s requirement to pay SSP until the date shown on the form. ESA has a 12-week linking period which will be indicated by the provision of an ESA220, ESA220A or ESA220C. If an employee says that they have lost their linking letter they can ask Jobcentre plus to provide a copy so that you can reduce your liability to SSP. Always ask new employees who fall sick within their first two years at work or those returning to work after sickness if they have a linking letter. FAMILY CREDIT Introduced on 1st April 1988 and replaced on 5th October 1999 by Working Family Tax Credits. Family Credit was a weekly, non-contributory, means-tested and tax-free benefit for people who were responsible for bringing up at least one child under the age of 16 (age 19 in full-time education up to A level or equivalent). The claimant had to be working for 16 hours or more a week. No printing, copying or reproduction permitted. Entitlement was dependent on the number and ages of the children, weekly net earnings, savings and other income. The benefit was paid for a period of 26 weeks at a fixed rate irrespective of changes in circumstances.
