INCAPACITY BENEFIT (IB) Introduced on 13thApril 1995 and replaced in 2008, Incapacity Benefit replaced Sickness Benefit and Invalidity Benefit. It is a contributory, taxable and semi means-tested benefit, available to people assessed as being incapable of work. For the first 28 weeks of incapacity, people will be assessed on the ‘own occupation’ test. After 28 weeks of incapacity, or from the start of the claim for people who did not previously have a job, incapacity is based on an ‘all work’ test. No printing, copying or reproduction permitted. There are certain exemptions from the ‘all work’ test.
