chain resilience and demonstrating world- class production through developing a low- temperature, low- pressure ammonia synthesis process.

THE SOLUTION Economic Impact: Short-term, decentralised chemical energy storage solution will enable scaling of renewable energy storage sites, securing competitive advantage in emerging hydrogen economy. At larger sites, CAPEX/ OPEX reduced by 98.5% compared to Haber- Bosch process. Global/Supply chain: Ammonia can unlock hydrogen economy by delivering zero-carbon energy vector. UK economy: Project commercialised from UK; ˃85% of project revenues (£21.6m/year, FYE2030) will be exports. Environmental Impact: Enabling small-scale, short-term renewable energy storage, ultimately reducing reliance on domestic and imported fossil fuels, and reducing CO2 emissions compared to deploying natural gas peaking plants for short-term energy storage. Globally, ammonia produced via Haber-Bosch already contributes around 1.8% of global carbon dioxide emissions. Compared to Haber-Bosch, initial modelling indicates green ammonia production process developed in this project could reduce Scope 1&2 CO2e emissions by 97% (from 2.84 to 0.082 tonnes CO 2 e/tonne ammonia), creating significant potential for reduction in CO 2 e emissions as we scale technology across ammonia applications (e.g., transport, agriculture). Societal Impact: Aligned with net zero, renewable energy, hydrogen, biotechnology, catalysis, innovation strategies. Increasing national self-sufficiency. Developing skills and capacity (catalysis science).

ELEVATOR PITCH Green ammonia on demand. Nium is a pioneering climate company

committed to eliminating emissions at scale through innovative nanotechnology solutions and pushing the boundaries of science for a better tomorrow. Nium currently applies nanotechnology and engineering to produce green ammonia on demand with zero direct emissions for a cleaner future of food and fuel. THE PROBLEM Ammonia is increasingly recognised as a highly promising solution for long-term, large-scale, low-carbon energy storage and is expected to play a key role in meeting national and international net-zero emissions targets. However, today most ammonia is produced by the high-temperature, high- pressure Haber- Bosch process. This process consumes 1-2% of the global energy budget, contributes around 1.8% of global carbon dioxide emissions, and requires large-scale, capital-intensive equipment. Nium is a start-up formed in 2022 on Carbon 13, the venture builder for the climate emergency. Our goal is to remove 10 million tonnes/year of CO 2 equivalent emissions by 2030. We are developing patent-pending nanotechnology that enables low-temperature, low-pressure production of ammonia on demand, unlocking the use of ammonia in short-term, decentralised energy storage applications. Nium’s technology will reduce carbon emissions, energy consumption, and costs, while increasing supply
