Of this 18,318-class weekly total, Cardio studios account for 9,696 classes, Mind & Body studios 5,517, and CrossFit studios 3,105.

Between them, London’s 324 boutique studios run 18,318 classes each week – up from 15,806 across 276 studios in 2018. Per-studio class numbers have changed very little in the past five years.

the likelihood is that this will be different again a year from now. ‘Post-COVID’ is a constantly evolving state. “We still believe in delivering as full a schedule as possible across all studios, ensuring the options are there to work out at a time that’s convenient to you; for every site, there are still people who need each timetable slot. Interestingly, in spite of new hybrid working patterns centred around Tuesday–Thursday office days, we can see similar patterns in 2023 class provision compared to the pre-pandemic, pre-hybrid working world of 2018. Certainly Barry’s isn’t viewing things “in black and white terms of pre- and post-pandemic”, says CEO Sandy Macaskill in his interview on page 51. “People are back in offices three days a week and
