Electrical Embedded Networks An Embedded Network is a small electricity system that distributes electricity exclusively to homes or businesses wi thin a speci f ic proper ty or area – for example, an apartment building.  Embedded Networks are supplied through a connection point (parent meter) to the wider distr ibut ion network (e.g. electr ici ty gr id). The operator of an embedded network buys electr ici ty in bulk and then on-sells the electr ici ty to each connection (premises) inside the Embedded Network. Each occupant ’s consumption is individually metered using a sub-meter.  The electricity distributor and the site owner are responsible for the supply of electricity to you (including the quality and reliability of the electricity supplied) and the connection of the residential complex or building to the distribution network. The site owner incurs distribution charges from the local distributor for connection to the grid for all customers in the Embedded Network . This ex ternal network cost is usually passed on to all the respect ive customer.

The ‘Electricity Usage Tarif f ’ and ‘Supply Charge’ are established by the Body Corporate to provide maximum value to both the Occupants and the Body Corporate.

Hot Water And Gas Embedded Networks

Similar to an Electrical Embedded Network, a Hot Water and Gas Embedded Network involves the Body Corporate entering in a bulk supply agreement for gas (supplied through a gas meter from a retail gas provider) and selling both hot water and gas to occupants. Each occupant ’s hot water usage in measured through individual hot water meters.  Hot water bill s cons i s t of a ‘Hot Water Usage Tar i f f ’ component and a ‘Suppl y Charge’ component , while gas i s t ypica ll y billed at a f i xed da il y charge. Thi s billing model i s cons i s tent wi th Or igin’s hot water and gas billing model.  The ‘Hot Water Usage Tarif f ’, ‘Supply Charge’, and ‘Daily Gas Charge’ are established by the Body Corporate to provide maximum value to both the Occupants and the Body Corporate.

Customer Choice Of Electricity Supplier Embedded network customers have the right to get their electricity (the kilowatt-hour component) from the site owner or from an authorised electricity retailer of their choice. If they get their electricity from a retailer, they may still have to pay the supply charge to the si te owner. Regional Queensland customers can choose their own electricity retailer, but only if that retailer is willing to make an of fer. Power of choice: In Victor ia, New South Wales and South East Queensland, Embedded network customers have the r ight to purchase electr ici ty from a licensed retailer of their choice.

Customer Energy Rights Whether electr ici t y is purchased from an author ised energy retailer or the site owner, customers have access to a range of consumer protections. Customers are not locked into any agreement for electrici ty supply wi th the si te owner and have the right to move to an electricity retailer. If they do sign a contract wi th a retailer, they have 10 days to change their mind (the ‘cooling of f ’ per iod). Customers can always go back to purchasing from the si te owner. I f embedded network customers want to install a solar or bat tery system, they’ll need the permission of the site owner.
