Athens Health Club

Barry Frankel, president and CEO of Athens Health Club, considers location to be a major factor in the success of his business. Since starting Athens Health Club in March 2004, Frankel has witnessed his fitness center’s group of loyal clients multiply. Near the end of 2014, a convenient location opportunity appeared. “We were coming towards the end of our lease, and there were some negatives to our current property, so I was in the market to move the business,” Frankel said. “It just so happened that St. John Properties was developing a business park named Liberty Exchange just across the street.”

Exchange space, and Frankel is pleased with his experiences so far. “It has been a pleasure dealing with a professional operation like St. John Properties,” he said. “Everything is taken care of in a timely manner. If I ever encounter a problems, I know the crew at St. John Properties will do everything they can to remedy the situ- ation as quick as possible. It has been nice to deal with professionals.”

To Frankel, Liberty Exchange seemed like the most logical place to relocate Athens Health Club. “Staying in the same gen- eral vicinity as our original location was important because we did not want to lose existing clients,” Frankel explained. “In this type of business, moving even a short distance can be the difference between whether someone goes to our gym or another gym. In the end, it all comes down to proximity and convenience for people, and we had a solid group of loyal clients that I didn’t want to lose.”

St. John Properties and Frankel worked out a deal, and Athens Health Club officially moved into Liberty Exchange in Eldersburg, Maryland, on September 15, 2015. Athens Health Club was able to make a smooth transition from its old location to its new space without causing any headaches for clients. “St. John found a way to work along with the county and arrange the schedule to be able to hit our target date, which was ... very important because we had nowhere to go, and we had to be up and running in the new space,” Frankel said. The move of Athens Health Club allowed Frankel to design the space exactly how he wanted it. “The architect at St. John Prop- erties did a great job. We were constantly going over ideas and making changes on the fly. It made the process real easy and enjoyable,” Frankel said. “Our space now consists of a large group fitness room for the classes we provide, a room specifically for spin classes, a large gym floor that has all the standard exercise equipment, and of course the lobby and the locker rooms.” Athens Health Club is coming upon their one-year anniversary in their new Liberty
