C&C Dance Company

Doing what you love is a dream few people are able to truly achieve. But after 44 years of teaching dance with the assistance of family and friends, Cheryl Brennan, the owner and one of the “C”s in C&C Dance Company, has been able to do just that.

As a child, Brennan’s mother made sure she would have every opportunity to dance, and as a result, Brennan would later travel to New York and become a Rockette, performing all over the country with bands like The Four Seasons and the Osmond Broth- ers. After several years, she returned home to Maryland, started a family and started teaching dance. “When I started, it was Cheryl’s Dance Company, and we had 50 children. Today, we’re at 1,200 kids,” she said. C&C’s space contains nine dance studios, a massage room, a study hall, two snack shops, storage space, and a media room for the children to watch movies before and after class. The classes range from acrobatics to tap and from ballet to hip hop. The studio offers classes for children as young as 2 years old, and the older children have the opportunity to audition for competitive dance, participating in competitions around the country and bettering their opportunities for scholarships and careers. “I’ve had nine students who have received scholarships and are now performers. It’s one in a million who make it professionally, but it’s really nice to have that feedback,” Brennan said.

With growth as a pattern for C&C, it made sense for Brennan to come to St. John Properties. “We always want to keep growing,” she said. “We’re on the end of the complex here, so when we took over, there was no where else to go. St. John was able to negotiate the space so we could continue to grow.” In addition to growth, the studios are located next to a gym, which allows parents to drop off children for dance and then have their own workout. When Brennan realized her space needed to grow, she knew it would have to happen in the off-season, which would be a challenge for St. John. “They started knocking down walls and closets immediately in our downtime, so construction wouldn’t interfere with classes.” Brennan added that St. John understands the necessity of keep- ing a safe property for the children. “They’re awesome,” she said. “They’re so prompt about what I need, especially for the safety of the children. That’s important with having so many kids in and out every day.” The C&C Dance family has grown over the years, extending beyond Brennan’s children to the children she teaches, and with the help of St. John, she expects that to continue in the future. “I love what I do, and it’s great to see the kids loving it too. I’m really proud of our staff and family, and I love the St. John family too.”
