DISTRICT OFFICE
Have you ever wondered how our schools get all the cool stuff—like new playground equipment, computers for classrooms, the nutritious meal at break, lunch and after school, or even the buses that get students to school? Well, there's a very important person who helps make sure all that happens: Mr. Douglas Beaton, the Chief Business Official (CBO) for the Barstow Unified School District (BUSD)! In this role, he is a key member of the leadership team, working alongside the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents to manage the financial and operational health of the district.
Dr. Vinney Williams Director Supportive School Climate xt.6007
Think of School Climate as the vibe or the feeling of your school. Is it friendly? Is it safe? Do people treat each other with respect? Dr. Williams’ job is to make sure every school in BUSD has a Supportive School Climate. He works to create a positive, safe, and welcoming environment where you can focus on learning and growing.
Douglas Beaton Chief Business Official Business Services xt. 6010
The work of the Chief Business Official is all about creating a great place to learn. When the district manages its money well, it means:
Here are some of the key things Dr. Williams oversees:
Safety and Kindness: He works closely with school leaders to implement programs like Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). This means focusing on teaching positive behavior and rewarding students for doing the right thing, rather than just focusing on consequences. Fixing Conflict (Restorative Justice) : Instead of only punishing students when problems happen, Dr. Williams promotes Restorative Justice practices. This approach helps students understand how their actions affect others and encourages them to make things right, rebuilding relationships. Inclusion and Culture: He works to ensure school policies and activities value every student's background, culture, and experiences. He helps organize cultural activities and training to celebrate the diversity of BUSD! Family & Community: Dr. Williams is responsible for bringing the school, your family, and the whole Barstow community closer together. One of the coolest things about Dr. Williams is that he's a true Barstow hometown hero! He's an alumnus of Barstow High School (BHS)! He knows exactly what it's like to be a student in our district. Dr. Williams started his career in BUSD back in 2002. He taught math and visual arts at Barstow High School. Later, he took on administrative roles, including serving as the Principal of Barstow STEM Academy. He has experience at all levels, from the classroom to the district office! Dr. Williams is especially happy to work in BUSD because his own children attend school here, and his parents and grandparents are also alumni! His deep roots in the community show how much he cares about every BUSD student. From teaching high school students to leading an academy, Dr. Williams has used his wide experience to focus on creating a supportive atmosphere for everyone. His current job is a blend of his passion for education and his commitment to the Barstow community. The positive behavior posters and cultural celebration events you see are a direct result of Dr. Williams and his team working hard to ensure your school is a welcoming place where everyone belongs!
More Opportunities: Schools can afford to offer more clubs, sports, and educational field trips. Better Classrooms: Students get access to up-to-date technology and comfortable learning environments. Safe Spaces: The maintenance team keep schools safe and clean every day.
