ENGINEERING SUB-COMMITTEE Advancing Standards and Collaboration: My Role as Chair of the EGSA Engineering Sub-committee
EGSA members seeking clarity on technical issues. • Foster collaboration between man- ufacturers, consultants, and end-us- ers to enhance the design of onsite power generation systems. • Ensure that consulting engineers find practical value in attending EGSA events. In short, we bridge the gap between theory and application, ensuring that engineering standards are not only technically sound but also imple- mentable in real-world scenarios. My Role as Chair As Chair, I am responsible for setting the strategic direction of the sub-com- mittee and ensuring that our work aligns with EGSA’s broader objectives. This involves: • Leadership and Coordination: Or- ganizing meetings, setting agendas, and facilitating discussions that lead to actionable outcomes. • Stakeholder Engagement: En- couraging participation from a wide range of industry experts to ensure diverse perspectives. • Oversight of Standards Devel- opment: Guiding the creation and revision of technical documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with evolving regulations. • Communication: Acting as the pri- mary liaison between the sub-com- mittee and EGSA leadership, report- ing progress, and advocating for resources when needed. My approach emphasizes collabora- tion and transparency. By fostering an environment where every mem- ber feels heard, we achieve consen- sus-driven decisions that strengthen
the credibility of our work.
Key Activities and Initiatives The Engineering Sub-committee un- dertakes several critical activities throughout the year. These include: 1. Standards Review and Development One of our core responsibilities is maintaining EGSA’s library of technical standards. This involves: • Reviewing existing documents for relevance and accuracy. • Updating standards to reflect tech- nological advancements, such as improvements in generator con- trols, automation, and protection systems. • Developing new guidelines where gaps exist, particularly in emerging areas. 2. Technical Problem-Solving We have a wide swath of industry professionals to network with, and that is a precious resource. Mem- bers often bring valuable anecdotal information regarding issues they en- counter in their field, whether that be sales, project management & design. We analyze these issues collectively and learn from each other, leveraging the expertise within the group to pro- pose effective and reliable solutions. This collaborative approach not only resolves immediate concerns but also informs future standards. 3. Education and Outreach We contribute to EGSA’s educational mission by: • Preparing technical content that can be used for conferences and webi- nars. • Developing PDH certificates that
Introduction The Electrical Generating Systems As- sociation (EGSA) plays a pivotal role in shaping best practices and technical standards for the power generation industry. Within this framework, the Engineering Sub-committee serves as a cornerstone for ensuring that engineering principles and techni- cal guidelines remain robust, rele- vant, and most importantly, available to consulting engineers seeking to enhance their knowledge of onsite power generation. As Chair of this sub-committee, my responsibility is to lead a diverse group of professionals toward a common goal: advancing engineering excellence in generator systems and related technologies. Purpose of the Engineering Sub-committee The Engineering Sub-committee ex- ists to provide technical leadership and guidance within EGSA.
