Engage Your Community
Scholastic R.E.A.L. Scholastic R.E.A.L. is a powerful and interactive literacy-based mentorship program that invites community members to read aloud and discuss books with children—helping them discover the joy of reading while developing lifelong learning and literacy skills. Supported by professional learning and training for staff and mentors, R.E.A.L. is easy to use in the library setting or out in the community. Here’s how it works: Engage community members : Our step-by-step recruitment guide and outreach tools will show you how to effectively invite community members to become reading mentors. Equip your mentors : R.E.A.L. mentor guides are designed for non-educators and contain guidance for leading an effective interactive read-aloud and helpful scripts to build mentor confidence. Build home libraries : After each read-aloud, children get to bring a copy of the book home. Engage families : A family guide provides easy, actionable ways to continue building literacy skills at home.
“We benefit from it as much as the kids do.” Joe Scully, R.E.A.L. Mentor
