R ustic has long been a popu - lar design theme in North Idaho homes. But more and more, builders are incorporating more modern touches and often combining the two styles. When building the Kootenai, a three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bath in the gated Rimrock Meadows community in Hayden, Selkirk Con - struction went with a bold design.

“We tried something a little more modern and edgy in this one that focused on some newer touches,” said Heidi LaBolle, interior designer and project coordinator for custom home builder. The 3,156-square-foot home received top Parade of Home awards in the Cedar category for best curb appeal, best kitchen, and best use of innovation.
