KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS The birthday of our Lord draws near; The day of days of all the year, A day of hope and joy and cheer, Keep Jesus Christ in Christmas! Let not the Santa crowd Him out With whiskers gray and body stout. Sometimes the world forgets about The loving Christ at Christmas! The day is Christ's by right divine. A day no myth should undermine, A day when thoughts and deeds sublime Should keep Christ in Christmas; Guard all your thoughts lest they should drift Let every message, every gift In some sweet, joyous way uplift To Christ, the Lord, at Christmas. Beyond all else this day should be A day of holiest memory, When ail the world should joyfully Seek Christ, its Lord, in Christmas. Give other things a minor place, But tell to man in every race The story, of this day of grace Of Christ, our Lord, on Christmas! SUPPOSE Suppose that Christ had not been born That far-away Judean morn. Suppose that God, whose mighty hand Created worlds, had never planned A way for man to be redeemed. Suppose the wise men only dreamed That guiding star whose light still glows Down through the centuries. Sup pose Christ never walked here in men’s sight, Our blessed way, and truth, and light. Suppose He counted all the cost, And never cared that we were lost,
And never died for you and me, Nor shed His blood on Calvary Upon a shameful cross. Suppose, That having died. He never rose, And there was none with power to save Our soul from death beyond the grave. As far as piteous heathen know These things that I've supposed are so! — Martha Snell Nicholson THE PERFECT GIFT The star of Christ still burns within the sky, The angels’ song still rings across the night, But if we listen we shall hear the cry Of millions who have never seen His light. Nor heard the glory song above the earth That heralded the blessed Saviour’s birth. The centuries go by and He who came That far-off Christmas night, must seek to know How few have pointed out the silver flame Of His high star, and oh, how few will go, As He has bid us do, to bear the Word, To those in darkness who have never heard! Oh, Christian friend, He calls to you today To take the joyous message to the lost. Go forth, His trust is in you . . . point the way To those seeking ones: the hurt, the tempest-tossed. Give them the Christ, the greatest gift of all. This is your opportunity, oh, heed the call! —Grace Noll Crowell
