SIGNIFICANT TREES
Trees make a significant contribution to the City of Casey’s environment and character. City of Casey has undertaken a significant tree study and made changes to its planning scheme to protect significant trees. Some of these trees are protected by the Heritage Overlay or Environmental Significance Overlay (ESO).
Many heritage properties within Casey have tree controls, meaning that a planning permit is required for lopping or removing a tree. In addition, an Environmental Significance Overlay (ESO), Significant Landscape Overlay (SLO) and Native Vegetation controls may impose restrictions on pruning, removing or destroying trees or carrying out construction works within three metres of a tree protection zone. Tip for owners You can check if heritage tree controls apply by contacting the City of Casey’s Heritage Planner, or finding your property in the Schedule to the Heritage Overlay (Clause 43.01) in the Casey Planning Scheme available at planning-schemes.delwp.vic.gov.au/schemes/ casey To check if a tree on your property is protected by an ESO, SLO and/or Native Vegetation controls search for your property on mapshare.vic.gov.au/vicplan and generate a ‘Planning property report’ or seek advice from the City of Casey’s Statutory Planning team.

– Retain trees with tree controls, alongside other early or original landscaping elements – Seek advice from a qualified arborist on maintaining the health of significant trees, or when planning works to or close to significant trees

Cause ground disturbance or construction works (including paving or seating) within the tree protection zone of significant trees
