As Royal Containers and its Board of Directors were considering equipment options at the new 155,000- square-foot facility in St. Thomas, Nelson was approached by Mex, Switzerland based Bobst, one of the world’s lead- ing suppliers of converting equipment for the folding car- ton and corrugated board industries. Bobst was about to launch a new flexo rotary die cutter, and Nelson was immediately interested when she saw that it would have inside-outside print capability. “Without hesitation, I knew we had to have this ma- chine and before we had even concluded the board meet- ing, we had ordered the machine,” she says. “We have a wide array of print capabilities at Royal Containers and adding inside-outside print in a single pass was something we wanted; we were already producing this kind of e-com- merce pack and had to do it in multiple passes, which was time consuming. “I knew our sales team would be able to fill this new machine, so we set about working with Bobst to imple- ment what was to be the first machine of its kind in North America.” The launch of the MASTERDRO flexo rotary die-cut- ter as part of its MASTERLINE DRO – a full line solution, from pre-feeder to palletizer – was announced by Bobst in Greg Marcella, VP of Operations, and Kim Nelson, President and CEO of Royal Containers, have invested in a new Bobst MASTERDRO for Royal’s new St. Thomas facility in Ontario.
