ENGAGEMENT & OUTREACH Increased public engagement and outreach has been one of the cornerstones of the JTA. Every new service or initiative launched since 2013 has come after extensive input, education, awareness programs and events with customers, stakeholders, and the community at large. The 10 years leading up to the NAVI launch was no exception. The JTA’s decision to replace the aging Skyway with an autonomous vehicle program was the result of input from the Skyway Advisory Group that recommended keeping the elevated people-mover’s infrastructure and repurposing it with something that would take the system far into the future. During the development and testing phases of the U 2 C program, the JTA hosted numerous demonstrations at the Armsdale Test & Learn Track and the Brooklyn AV Circulator to enable the public to experience the innovative technology. The pilots attracted thousands of people.
As the NAVI service launch approached, the JTA sponsored public outreach and engagement events with staff, stakeholders and the public, including: • NAVI Day at the JTA’s Myrtle Avenue Operations Campus (MAOC) to communicate and celebrate with JTA staff • Vehicle showcases at the 2025 Jacksonville Jazz Fest and the Riverside Arts Market • National Autonomous Vehicle Day Conferences (2023-2025) • Ribbon Cutting at the Autonomous Innovation Center
The JTA engaged with hundreds of students through internships and special activities designed for youngsters from elementary through high school. The FSCJ pilot program heightened engagement by providing an opportunity for students, faculty and visitors to ride AV shuttles to class and around the campus.
