The new bar concept, Mix, encompasses three specialty lounges serving champagne, martinis, spirits, and ales. The new Showroom at Sea features Broadway entertainers and The Retreat has an upscale pizzeria and giant LED screen for evening movies. An increasingly popular feature on all HAL ships is the Culinary Arts Center, presented by Food & Wine Magazine , which has been described as a “world class show kitchen at sea.” In 2014, the center’s enrichment program included a roster of celebrity chefs, epicures, and authors, including New York Times columnist Mark Bittman and Food Network “Next Iron Chef” competitor Jehangir Mehta.

HAL cruises are best for adults, families, and multigenerational groups who want a classic cruise vacation with modern amenities on mid-size ships. For those who want a deluxe experience, the high-end HAL suites provide concierge service and other luxuries associated with more expensive cruise lines. HAL has a broad appeal and offers programs and activities for all ages, from high-tech computer sessions to conventional Vegas-style entertainment. Babysitting On sea days, babysitting services are available through the Front Office for a small surcharge for children three years of age or older. This service is provided by staff on a volunteer basis, and may not always be available. Babysitting service is not offered while the ship is in port, although Club Hal does offer activities for children aged 3–12 between 8 am and 4 pm on port days. Club HAL’s port day activities as well as an After Hours program are available for children ages 3–12 who meet Club HAL’s eligibility requirements. (Children must be pre-registered for the program through a parental consent form, must be potty trained, out of pull-ups, and 100% independent in the restroom, as youth staff are not permitted to assist.) Club HAL® After Hours is available on all ships (except the MS Prinsendam) from 10 pm to midnight for children three years of age or older. The fee is $5.00 per hour per child. Parents must pick up their children on time or will be charged a late fee. For babysitting outside of the hours offered by Club HAL, guests may check at the Front Office to see if this volunteer-based service is currently available.
