We hosted our first Spring Family Fun Day in the Living Well Lounge on 9 April...

By John G Burns OBE Interim Chief Executive Since taking up the role of Interim Chief Executive in June, I have had the opportunity to see first-hand the tremendous commitment, compassion and sense of purpose that runs throughout the Ayrshire Hospice.

and what a day we had!

It was lovely to welcome patients and their families, young people who have been supported by our Children and Young Person’s Service, and even the Easter Bunny, for a fun-filled day of crafting, egg hunts, races and lots more.

What has struck me particularly is the collective effort behind everything we do. Whether providing care and support to patients and families, raising vital funds, welcoming people into our shops and facilities, supporting colleagues behind the scenes, or giving time as a volunteer, every individual and every team has a part to play. It is by working together as one Hospice that we are able to make the greatest difference to people across Ayrshire and Arran. This latest edition of The Article brings that collective effort to life. You can read about developments across our clinical services and some of the fantastic activities that have brought patients, families and our wider community together at Racecourse Road over the spring and summer. You will also meet some of the remarkable people who support the Hospice, from those taking on personal fundraising challenges to the thousands who have joined us at events including our Colour Dash, Kiltwalk and Road to the World Cup Dinner. At the heart of this edition are the people and families we are privileged to support. I am particularly grateful to Alan Hyslop’s family for sharing his story with us. Their moving account is a powerful reminder of why the work of the Hospice matters. My sincere thanks go to everyone who contributes to the life and work of the Ayrshire Hospice – our staff, volunteers, supporters, partners and wider community. Whatever your role or connection to the Hospice, your contribution helps us continue to provide care and support to people across Ayrshire and Arran. I hope you enjoy this edition of The Article. With my sincere thanks,

We made spring bonnets, got creative with lots of other crafts and enjoyed some fantastic face painting!

Thanks to McDonald’s Ayr, Tesco Ayr and Kilmarnock, Cecchini’s Ayr and our own Craft Group for donating bottled water, fruit bags, pizzas, paints, brushes and lots more. It all helped make it a fantastic day for everyone involved.
