Placed in their own little universe, Nic’s miniature characters offer viewers an intimacy akin to peering through the windows into a stranger’s life. Tackling topics such as family, love and hope with his trademark humour, he opens our eyes to the joy we can bring to others. “The only way for us to evolve personally and collectively is to spread kindness and love in the world around us,” he says. “We all create a picture in our lives, where we are both the artist and the subject.” Whether it’s exploring the criminal underworld of the Peaky Blinders or taking inspiration from Jackson Pollock, Nic’s approach is anything but conventional. Embellished from above with splatters of paint, the letters are laser-cut and finished with lacquer. His figures are cast, sanded down with a minute strip of sandpaper and cleaned before being hand- painted. Only then can the painstaking construction begin!
