Former Hawkesbury Fire Department chief Ghislain Pigeon has been appoin- ted as the new fire services director in Champlain Township, filling a role left vacant since 2012. Pigeon’s appointment was confirmed at a township council meeting on December 10 and he started in the role on December 14. The new director had 40 years of experience in fire services, including as a volunteer then permanent firefighter, fire safety officer, and fire departments coordinator across multiple municipalities. He was chief of the Hawkesbury Fire Department from 2001 to 2015 before moving to the same role at the Brockville Fire Department. Pigeon’s contract in Brockville ended in August. As part of his role in Champlain, Pigeon will oversee two district chiefs, two deputy chiefs, seven captains, and about 40 volunteer

The United Counties of Prescott-Russell council (UCPR) approved a bylaw authorizing an agreement between the UCPR and Kana- ta-based Hein Construction. The bylaw was approved during a special session of the UCPR council on December 17. Chief administrator Stéphane Parisien told council that his department had been waiting for the provincial government to approve the final selection of Hein Construction as the
project’s general contractor. “The approval came in the mail this XFFL u1BSJTJFOTBJEi8FSFQSFUUZIBQQZ about it.” Hein Construction presented the winning bid of several contenders for the project, based on a list of qualifying conditions, including price quote for the contract. The company’s bid for the contract amounted to $70,610,000, excluding HST.
