diverse teams and challenging situations”. He also values the discipline, decision-making, critical thinking, and adaptability that have underpinned his post- College life.

“In everything, it is vital to treat people the same way you want to be treated and listen twice as much as you speak.” Wanting to ‘give back’ to College, Chris has driven the growing success of clay target shooting at the school as a “character- building” activity for all year levels. “My son, Connor, was interested in clay target shooting so we arranged for some lessons,” he says. “In 2018, after approaching the then Director of Sport, Rob Clarke, some boys were given the opportunity to take clay target shooting as a co-curricular activity. “The boys were enthusiastic and we made an impact from the first competitions. We established a relationship with the Waihora Clay Target Club, which helped with coaching and training facilities. By the time Connor left College in 2020, the team culture and

structure were developing well and good results were being achieved. I moved to a team management role and we used external coaches to develop the shooting skills. “It is a sport that boys can do with their parents (usually the dads). A lot of fathers have started out shooting with their sons and it has been something they can do together, pretty much on an equal footing, for many years. We have a training programme that can take just about anyone and build their skills and confidence to the point they can achieve goals and personal success. Many boys have succeeded in shooting where they previously may not have had a strong interest in sports. In shooting they find a niche, despite the activity taking place in all weather from the freezing cold and wet through to blazing heat or torrential rain.

Today, VCare is the largest company in the Concept Engineering group. “VCare is a comprehensive

management platform for the residential aged care sector and is used to manage everything from retirement villages through to rest homes and hospitals,” Chris explains. “We are the largest provider of aged care software in New Zealand and also have offices in Ireland for supporting our Irish and European operations. We also work in the Australian market. We focus on what we do well and remain adaptable and flexible while embracing new ideas.
