Asked by the Register to “give a personal, informal impression of his involvement in the 125th Anniversary Sports Weekend, in ”The Diary of the Head Prefect”, he recalled saying “goodbye to any schoolwork for the next five days”, marking out and preparing Upper, taking part in the 125 Revue, reading the first lesson at the anniversary service, a school flag that did not flutter, a chilling easterly, and the fact that “basically everybody gave something and gained a little

more – just by sacrificing time and becoming involved”. 10

Another epoch loomed in 2000. Who can forget the

sesquicentennial celebrations and the weather bomb that blew out the Lyttelton marina, downed trees and powerlines, and attempted to send the marquee on Upper towards the Botanic Gardens? Planning had begun in 1994 11 and, over the succeeding years, events gradually unfolded. A white rose was developed, a 150th tie was worn by College for the year,
