been able to follow my dream and pursue a career. Working with College Head of Art Darryn George has had a big impact on both my art and my designs. From Year 11, I have really focused on my artwork. I love working in oils and creating abstract designs. Darryn George has helped to bring out my talent while also introducing me to the inspiring work of so many different artists. In retrospect, I feel that I have really been able to develop and enhance my own individual style at Christ’s College.” Speaking as a teacher and respected New Zealand artist, Darryn George adds that “Eric possesses an innate talent for art that is among the best that I have taught”. “Eric’s drawing skills are incredible, consistently producing artwork that displays remarkable precision, depth, and emotional resonance,” he says. “Whether working with traditional mediums such as pencil, ink, and oil paint, or experimenting with more

Christchurch. A striking piece was selected for a special exhibition by students from around the world, held in conjunction with the 2022 Round Square International Conference in England. The exhibition reflected the personal, cultural, and geographical diversity of Round Square schools and their creative students. “The theme of the Round Square Art Exhibition was to focus on the spaces we inhabited,” Eric says. “Because of Covid-19, I had not been back home for several years, so I decided to create a painting of my hometown in China. I combined some traditional Chinese paintings with Western oil paintings and hoped that everyone could enjoy the artwork.”
