E ach calendar year, the Independent Carton Group (ICG) hosts membership meetings in which representative of member companies share news and updates concerning their businesses. The ICG is an association of 19 independently owned and op- erated folding carton manufacturers who collectively repre- sent more than $800 million in annual sales and 1,500 years of packaging history.
In 2016, meetings were hosted by Indiana Carton, Bremen, In- diana; 3C Packaging, Clayton, North Carolina; and Finn Indus- tries, Royal Paper Box and Thoro Packaging, co-hosted a meeting in Huntington Beach, California. Member companies of the ICG include:Accord Carton,Accu- rate Box,All Packaging, Colbert Packaging, Curtis Packaging, 3C Packaging, Dee Packaging Solutions, Diamond Packaging, Disc Graphics, El Paso Paper Box, Finn Industries, Frankston Packag- ing, Indiana Carton, Jones Packaging, Royal Paper Box, Son- deren Packaging, Thoro Packaging, Wausau Container and Zumbiel Packaging. Several of the companies have reported recent facility expan- sions or relocations. Accurate Box completed phase one of a 200,000-square-foot expansion at its Paterson, N.J., facility. DLS Seeks Digital Solutions From Colordyne, Mark Andy Diversified Labeling Solutions (DLS) has installed Colordyne’s 3600 Series Retrofit onto a 10-inch-wide Mark Andy 2200 through the recent partnership be- tween Colordyne Technologies and Mark Andy. This new hybrid press is DLS’ second digital print- ing solution from Colordyne, their fourth in total. Colordyne began partnering with Mark Andy in 2016 to offer high-quality digital inkjet capabilities for existing flexo presses. The Colordyne 3600 Series Retrofit (also referred to as the Mark Andy Digital +3600) is a part of the Mark Andy Digital Plus enhancement program. Creative Labels Upgrades To Esko CDI Spark Creative Labels, Troy, Ohio, has replaced its flexo digital plate imaging system with a CDI Spark 2420 flexo plate imager from Esko. Creative Labels’ 15 employees operate Mark Andy presses ranging from 7-inch eight-color to 13-inch 10- color flexo presses; all the presses work with water or UV inks.

Bobst Hosts Roadshow In Colombia Bobst recently hosted a Latin America Roadshow in Bogota, Colombia. The presentations by Bobst included insight from industry partners AVT, CGS, Coim, DuPont, Esko, Flint Group, Laem and MacDermid. The technical aspects of the label and packaging pro- duction were complemented by an overview of the Colombian industry given by the President of ANDI- GRAF, the Colombian Association of the Graphic Com- munication Industry, as well as by the speech of Quala’s Packaging Engineer, who relayed the market needs and trends from the perspective of a brand owner. The event also provided an opportunity for Bobst to introduce to the industry Jorge Lagos Caballero of Novaflex, the new sales representative of Bobst web- wed equipment in Colombia. 3C! Packaging Installs New Nilpeter Press
3C! Packaging, an independent privately-owned pharmaceutical packaging solutions company spe- cializing in the design and manufacture of custom folding cartons, printed literature, inserts/outserts, la- bels/foils and unit dose applications, has installed a new Nilpeter FB-3 flexo press. The 10-color press delivers a top speed of 750 feet per minute on webs up to 13.75 inches wide. The Nilpeter press has movable unwind/rewind towers with rail system that allow multiple label configura- tions, while its short web path reportedly yields fast job changeovers with minimum start-up waste. Each of the ergonomically-designed printing units includes five servo systems to automate all adjustments for sav- ing, loading and changing jobs, as well as for job pre- setting, impression settings, and side register load.

The Miraflex has the capability to register a top coat to an already printed design.An AVT system will provide automated sensing of visual defects while printing. The press can accept roll widths from 31.5 inches to 52 inches and can print an image up to 50 inches wide. The large repeat capabilities up to 31.5 inches will accommodate large format bags and pouches. AWT intends to grow in the complex film structure business in their existing market segments and plans to expand into the pet foods and gourmet coffee segments.
