By Brandon K. Pierce The Sports Ledger Livia Cowart is a two sport standout for the Fyffe Red Devils and she is one of the 2022 Ledger Leader award recipients. Livia plays both softball and volleyball and she has a 4.0 academic GPA. In 2021 she was an All- County Volleyball player and she won the team awards for Defense and Most Digs. She also helped lead Fyffe to the Class 3A Final Four and to the Class 3A Area 14 Tournament Runner-Up Title. On the softball field she was a member of Fyffe’s By Brandon K. Pierce The Sports Ledger Cornerstone Christian Academy's Mackenzie Ely is a four-sport student athlete for the Eagles. She started attending Cornerstone in the spring semester of her sophomore year and is currently a junior. Mackenzie's main sport is volleyball, but she also enjoys playing basketball, soccer, and running track. In her freshman season of volleyball at Mountain View Christian she was a starter on the varsity team, and she received the Heart of the Lion award. During her sophomore season at MVCA she started on the varsity team, where she made the all-tournament team, received All-league honors, and earned the Heart of the Lion award. In her junior season, Mackenzie started playing for the Cornerstone Christian volleyball team. She started on the varsity Bayside Academy’s Ty Ferguson scored a goal with an assist from John Will Kirkland in the AHSAA State Class 1A/3A Boys’ finals. It was the only goal either team could muster as the Admirals (21-3-5) defeated the Collinsville Panthers 1-0 to win in the state crown. Both teams hustled from the get-go and until the final buzzer in what turned out to be a very intense, exciting soccer final between two well-matched teams. Bayside took 16 shots, 11 on goal, and made the one. Panther goalkeeper Jinen Shukal registered 10 saves on the night. Collinsville (19-8-0),
organized the “Take What You Need” closet for the Beta Club; volunteered to help with youth basketball, softball, and volleyball concession stands, kept stats for volleyball and softball; and she worked to raise money for the Beta Club through the Devils Brew by serving students breakfast items. “I enjoy my grandmother’s help in learning how to crochet and sew,” said Livia. Another interesting fact about the Fyffe junior is that she is left-handed, but plays sports right-handed. Fyffe classmate Jake Wooden is also a two sport
Fyffe Red Devils football and baseball teams, where he has won All-Area and All-County honors. The Fyffe junior has a 3.83 GPA and he is a member of the school’s Spanish Club, FCA, Beta Club, and FFA. Outside of school Jake helps maintain his family farm, which includes seven chicken houses, 100 mama cows, and 12 horses. In his spare time he enjoys swimming, going to the river, and spending time with his family and friends. second in the ACAA state cross country meet, played in the ACAA varsity boys basketball all star game, and started on Cornerstone’s first boys basketball team to make it to the championship game. Ankle injuries and a month and a half long recovery period from Covid limited him to very few basketball games his sophomore season. The basketball team made it to the final four despite many players not being at 100%. This year at the ACAA track meet, Bryce placed third in the 800m and was a part of the second place 4x400 team. The Eagle’s basketball team made it to the final four, and Bryce was selected to second team All-State, along with an invitation to play in the All- Star game. Besides playing sports, Bryce plays guitar for his church and helps out with Cornerstone’s pee wee basketball camps.

Outside of school, Livia has helped raise money for both volleyball and CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate); bought and packed Christmas gifts/shoebox for Good Samaritan and children at Head Start; packed lunches for students who needed food over spring break;

Haygood and Currie Named Ledger Leaders By Brandon K. Pierce The Sports Ledger Two standout student
athletes from Sylvania have been selected for the 2022 Ledger Leader awards. Griffin Haygood is a two sport star for the Rams, playing both basketball and football. Griffin has a 4.0 academic GPA. He is a member of the National Beta Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Classmate Leianna Currie is also a two sport star at Sylvania, playing both basketball and softball. The junior standout has a 4.06 GPA and is also a member of the Beta Club. Leianna is a Sylvania Youth Sports Volunteer and she is also a Life Chapel Kids Ministry Volunteer. For her efforts on the basketball court, Leianna has earned several awards. In 2021 she helped lead Sylvania to the state finals, where the Rams finished as the Class 3A State runner- up. Also in 2021, the Rams were the Regional Tournament Champions. Leianna was a member of the 2021 All-State and Sand Mountain Tournament

team and played in the All- Star game. She also played on the varsity basketball team where she helped lead the Lady Eagles to the State Championship. For her efforts she was named to the All-Tournament team and she is one the 2022 Ledger Leader award recipients. Mackenzie has also been involved in various community service projects through her school and church. She has helped pack backpacks for her church’s coached by Jeff Stanley, had only six shots but they continued to attack the Admirals defense, but only finding few chances to crack their armor. Ferguson had four shots on goal for the night. Kirkland also had four shots. Jesus Francisco had two shots for the Panthers while four others attempted shots. The state championship was the third in a row for Bayside, which has four state crowns to its credit since 2016. The Admirals also won the 1A/3A title in 2019 and 2021. Collinsville has one state championship, winning the crown in 2013.

Guntersville Duo Earns Ledger Leaders Honors
By Brandon K. Pierce The Sports Ledger Guntersville High School’s Sam Canady and Annelise Bradshaw have both earned 2022 Ledger Leader Honors. Sam is a two-sport star for the Wildcats, playing both football and baseball. He has played football for the past three seasons. During this time, he helped lead Guntersville to three Marshall County Championships and three Region Championships. His efforts also earned him All- County and All-Region honors. Sam has also played baseball for three seasons, helping the Wildcats earn two Area Championships. Outside of athletics, Sam has a 4.0 GPA and he is involved in various school organizations. He is a member of the National Honor Society, FCA Leadership team and summer intern, FBLA, Jr. Civitans and math team. He is also the SGA representative for his class. Annelise is a multisport student athlete for the Lady Wildcats and she also has a 4.0 GPA. She is the team caption for the Guntersville Outdoor and Indoor track teams, and she is on the Wildcat’s Cross Country Team. Her efforts helped her become a state qualifier for the past three

Guntersville's Lila Powers (#3) helped the Lady Wildcats pick up a victory in the opening round of the 2022 State Soccer Playoffs. The Lady Wildcats advanced to the quarterfinals, where the program's season came to an end following a 1-0 loss to Westbrook Christian.
