Fort Payne High School will hold it 2022 Graduation on May 19 at 7:00 p.m at Wildcat Stadium. A total of 257 students are set to graduate. Leading the FPHS Class of 2022 is Valedictorian Owen Birch Pettis. Owen is the son of Michele Costik Pettis and Pierce Pettis. He has achieved a GPA of 4.47 and a 35 superscore on the ACT. He is a member of the National Honors Society, National Technical Honors Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Key Club and Fort Payne Debate Club. Owen has also been a member of the Fort Payne Cross Country and Track team for six years now, running multiple events and qualifying for the 400m and 200m in state. After graduation he plans on attending Auburn University to earn a degree in Business Administration, and then later plans to earn an MBA. Abby Redden, daughter of Roger and Sherry Redden, is Fort Payne High School’s Class of 2022 salutatorian. Abby has a grade point average of 4.45 and has been inducted into Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, and National Technical Honor Society. She has also participated in Key Club, Future Business Leaders of America, and Students Against Destructive Decisions. Upon high school graduation, Abby will be receiving Mathematics and General/Pre- Liberal Arts associate degrees through the Early College Enrollment Program from Northeast Alabama Community College. After graduation, she plans to continue her academic journey at Shorter University. The Cherokee County Civitan Club is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a qualifying student with a disability at Gadsden State Community College. for the 2022-2023 academic year. To apply, the student must complete a Cherokee County Civitan Club scholarship application and meet the following criteria: Student must be registered through the Gadsden State Office of Disability Services and Civitan Club Scholarship Resources; be a resident of Cherokee County; be enrolled at Gadsden State Cherokee with a minimum of six credit hours; have at least a 2.5 GPA; have completed their high school diploma or GED equivalent. Student must satisfactorily demonstrate financial need for the scholarship. Applications may typed paragraph detailing financial need and one letter of recommendation from a non-family member in the community should be submitted to Gadsden State Cherokee by June 1. The application packet be obtained from the Gadsden State Cherokee Business Office. The application along with a may be mailed or dropped off to the campus located at 801 Cedar Bluff Road in Centre.
