State Champions Named Ledger Leaders

Jonah Williams is Twice a Champion

Pierce The Sports Ledger Basketball standout Jonah Williams is one the top athletes in Northeast Alabama, as well as one of the top students in the junior class at Plainview High School. Williams is a three year varsity starter on the Bear's basketball program and a two time Class 3A State Champion. He was a member of Plainview's 2019 championship program and a key player in helping lead the Bear's to the AHSAA State Crown this past season. In the 2022 State Finals, Williams scored eight points to help the Bears secure a 77-60 championship victory over Winfield. Additionally, he has won three straight All- DeKalb County Awards

class with a 4.1 GPA. He has an ACT score of 25 and has taken both AP and dual enrollment coursework. His academic awards at Plainview include Algebra II w/Trig and World History. Williams has also won the Career Preparedness Award. Additionally, he is a two time Class President (Sophomore and Junior years) and Vice President of the Science Club and Beta Club. Williams has also attended the Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy. Outside of the classroom and off the basketball court he has volunteered for various community services projects including Operation Christmas Child and the Plainview High School Food Pantry. Additionally, he is a Youth Basketball Camp Leader and he attends Concord Baptist Church.

Williams is a three time Sand Mountain All- Tournament Team Member (2019, 2020, 2021), three time Class 3A Area 14 All- Area selection (2020, 2021, 2022), and he was named to the 2021 Sand Mountain Super 6. In 2020, Williams was also named to the AHSAA Elite 100. During his basketball career at Plainview he has scored 1,600 career points and he holds the school record for most 3-point baskets made in a single game (12). By Brandon K. Pierce The Sports Ledger Mia Tidmore is a five year varsity starter on the Plainview High School girls' softball team. She has played in over 120 games as a starter and she helped the program win the AHSAA 2021 Class 3A state softball championship. Mia went 3-for-4 to help Plainview earn a 13-0 victory in last year's state softball championship game in Oxford, AL. It was the first state girls softball title in school history. Pierce, The Sports Ledger Mia Tidmore is a 5-year softball starter a spot on the 2021 All- State Tournament Team. She was also a member of the 2021 North Regional, Area and DeKalb County Championship team. She was also named the 2021 County Tournament MVP and she was an All-County selection. She has various other related awards from the 2018 and 2019 seasons. This season she has helped lead Plainview to the programs' seventh consecutive DeKalb County Tournament championship. She has also helped the Bears reach the 2022 State Softball Tournament. In addition to softball, Mia has a long list of academic accomplishments. She has a 4.0 GPA, a score of 24 on her ACT, and she is ranked first in her class. She has taken AP coursework and won the schools' Chemistry and Algebra 1 awards Mia is a member of both the Beta Club and the Science Club. She is an Operation Christmas Child Volunteer and she has attended the Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy. Outside of the school, she provides catching lessons to youth athletes.

Collinsville's DeBoard and Wills Selected For Ledger Leader Award

Honorable Mention Geraldine High School Geraldine juniors Eli Slaton and Sara Smith have several things in common. Both student athletes play multiple sports, both are Bulldog Award winners, and both have received honorable mention after being selected by the school for The Sports Ledger's annual Ledger Leader award. Eli plays baseball, golf, and basketball at Geraldine, while Sara is involved in both basketball and golf. Both are involved in numerous activities outside the classroom. However an academic GPA was not provided by the school. Yazmin De La Cruz was nominated by Crossville High School for the 2022 Ledger Leader award. She has a 4.1 GPA and plays both basketball and soccer. A photo of Yazmin was not provided. Crossville did not submit a boys nominee for the award. Crossville High School

By Brandon K. Pierce The Sports Ledger Collinsville's Keaton DeBoard and Sophia Wills have both been selected as The Sports Ledger's 2022 Ledger Leader Award Recipients. Keaton is a two sport student athlete for the Collinsville Panthers and he has a 3.85 academic GPA. His performance on the gridiron, has earned Keaton All-Region and All-County football honors. He has also been named the Collinsville team MVP. On the baseball diamond, Keaton helped lead the Panthers to the second round of the 2022 AHSAA state playoffs. He has also earned All-County baseball honors. Outside of the classroom, the Collinsville junior is involved in Pulse Ministries, World Changers, and serves as an 8U Youth Baseball Coach. Sophia is a four sport standout at Collinsville. She plays softball, volleyball and basketball. She is also a cheerleader. As a student athlete she has earned numerous awards including All-Area, All-State, and All-County recognition. She has also been a homecoming court attendant since 2019.

Sophia has learned to manage her time, as she has been able to compete in all four sports and maintain a perfect 4.0 GPA. She has made time to complete more then 30 hours of Dual Enrollment credit courses at Northeast Alabama Community College, and she anticipates being able to complete her college degree before she graduates from Collinsville in 2023. Some of her other academic accomplishments include serving as a JSU Emerging Leader and as

Vice President of the Beta Club. Sophia is active in other clubs and organizations at Collinsville including FCCLA, FCA, FBLA, and Teens Together. She is Co-Editor in Chief of the Panther Press and she has been her Class President for three years (2020-2022). Other organizations that she is involved with include Phi Theta Kappa and Sigma Kappa Delta. Outside of school and athletics, Sophia has volunteered for many events

Class for Loves homeless shelter Fundraiser. Sophia is a member of the Collinsville Baptist Church Youth Group. She speaks English and Spanish and plays the piano.

Eian Bain of Valley Head was nominated by the school for the Ledger Leader award. He has a 3.3 GPA and plays basketball, baseball, and football.
