January
Spaghetti day January 4 has long been celebrated as National Spaghetti Day, although the exact origin or the holiday seems to be in question. Americans have always favored this thin, cylindrical shaped pasta of Italian and Sicilian origin. A variety of sauces top the pasta~ carbonara, bolognese, alfredo, clam sauce, marinara and others. Meatballs are often added as well as hard grated cheese such as Romano, Parmesan, and Grana Padano. Spaghetti is often an American’s first introduction to Italian pasta. Given current eating trends there are a variety of gluten free pastas as well as Zoodles, made from zucchini. Pasta has been enjoyed for centuries and according to records dried pasta became popular in the 14th and 15th centuries due to its ease of storage. Fresh, dried, homemade or not , be sure to enjoy a pasta dish and celebrate another interesting holiday on January 4th... Trivia Day!
