Button Day Established in 1938 National Button Day celebrates the function of buttons and the hobby of button collection. Many buttons are works of art so take time to appreciate all the button has to offer... from fastening your clothing, to decorative accents and many are used in crafts. Buttons have been around for almost 5,000 years. They have also been found in relics from the Bronze age sites in China and ancient Rome. Buttons are made from wood, plastic, ceramic, bone, metal and glass, as well as a variety of products. Czechoslovakia was know for creating beautiful glass production buttons from 1850 to around 1900 when the craft died out. Many Czeck buttons can still be found for sale and collectors covet these beautiful works of art. There are a few museums that have interesting collections of buttons and a few online like the Victoria & Albert Museum. Enjoy a meal featuring Czech food celebrating the glass button industry.
