May

May Day In France, the tradition of giving Lily of the Valley bouquets to loved ones goes back to 1561 when King Charles IX was given a present of these flowers. Europeans and Americans celebrate the holiday with crowns of flowers, maypole dancing, and making flower baskets. The holiday also celebrates spring, fertility and feminity. May Day celebrations are twofold as it is often the day known as International Labor Day, however the US has it’s own celebration of workers so is not usually designated as such in the US.
