Native and wild planting guide
Native and wild planting guide Help us protect, support and enhance our natural environment
To protect the beautiful natural environment at Poole & Wimborne, there are a number of rules relating to memorial planting and seed sowing that have to be observed by our clients: P Plants and seed must be native P Only plants and seed from Poole & Wimborne’s approved planting list may be used P Planting and seed sowing must be appropriate to the location (woodland species within the wooded areas and meadow species within the meadow areas). We understand the need to plant or sow seed on the burial plots, however we’re seeing increasing volumes of non-native and unauthorised plants establishing around the ground. The team at Poole & Wimborne reserve the right to remove any plants that are not on the approved planting list. While five acres of Poole & Wimborne establishes itself as semi- natural woodland, the remainder of the land is managed as meadow. Meadows are an important habitat which until recently have been in decline. We’re in the fortunate position to be able to help reverse this decline, managing ten acres of our site as native wildflower meadow. This offers plant diversity and attracts important pollinator insects and invertebrates, which in turn attracts birds, bats and mammals. By following our ‘native and wild’ planting rules, our clients demonstrate their commitment to the woodland burial ground ethos and help us protect this important living landscape.
