Every nation needs certain symbols for its identity and identity which makes any nation unique from other nations of the world. Language is also one of the symbols that is the identity of any nation. Language is a means of enhancing relations between the people of any country and of the unity and stability of that country. A language is much more than just a way of communicating. Language, and particularly our mother tongue, is an important part of our culture. Some people even think that our language can change how we see the world. International Mother Language Day or Matribhasha Diwas is observed every year on February 21 to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism around the world. The idea to celebrate International Mother Language Day first came from Bangladesh. UNESCO chooses a theme for each International Mother Language Day, and sponsors related events at its Paris headquarters. In 2008, the International Year of Languages began on International Mother Language Day. It is celebrated in Chile, Russia, the Philippines, Egypt and Canada. There are about 6,500 languages in the world, but did you know that a language disappears and dies every two weeks? International Mother Language Day, on 21 February, is a day to celebrate and protect all the languages of the world.
