Lupo often explores the fetishization of objects and asks her viewer to consider how value is assigned. In Lincoln Pennies 1909–2013 , the artist embedded a timeline of pennies into the smallest scale of commercially available Rubbermaid Brute container. Lupo inherited the collection, which begins in the year that the first US pennies were minted and continued to the year of the work’s completion. —SK
