In this surrealist composition, Gober juxtaposes three seemingly incongruous elements: a piece of fabric painted with cherry motifs, a cast human ear, and a stained cotton dishtowel. Each alludes to a different sense: the cherries to taste, the ear to hearing, and the dishcloth to touch, through an invocation of hands at work in the kitchen. In the context of the exhibition, it suggests an uncanny alignment of the bodily and the domestic load in the world of the everyday. âHJ
