Eat meals seated at a table and encourage conversation without the distraction of any forms of screens (television, personal devices, cell phones, etc.). Encourage activities that get your kids moving (e.g., bike riding, sports, chores or a game of tag). It?s recommended that children get at least 60 minutes of physical activity per day. Time spent in front of a screen is time that could be spent being active. Do not use screen time as a reward. Keep televisions, computers and mobile devices out of bedrooms to encourage better sleep hygiene practices. As a parent, set a good example for your kids by being aware of your own screen time. Use the American Academy of Pediatrics Family Media Planner, which can help calculate how much screen time a child should be limited to based on age. It can also help to establish screen-free times, screen-free zones and device curfews if desired.
