BEAR is the only 501(c)(3) organization working with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) and Harris County Resources for Children and Adults that offers unique programs – that provide not only the basic needs of children recently uprooted, but also supportive services that provide comfort, dignity, and celebration of successes that propel the child toward a successful future – for abused and neglected children.

BEAR’s work is indispensable to the community. By offering both material support and emotional reassurance, BEAR ensures that every child they reach feels valued and cared for. Whether they help one child or thousands, BEAR’s mission remains clear: to provide hope, dignity, and a sense of belonging to the children who need it most. BEAR steps in to provide them with a stuffed animal to hold, a warm blanket, or new clothing with tags, signaling that they are not forgotten and they matter.

BEAR Necessities

New clothing, shoes, underwear, diapers, shampoo, toothbrushes, all everyday items.

New school supplies and backpacks.

BEARing Gifts

During the month of December, we provide Christmas gifts to at-risk, abused and neglected children.

We utilize the time and talent of community photographers to take pictures of children that qualify for the HEART Gallery and become a traveling art exhibit.

The number of children under the care of Child Protective Services continues to rise in the greater Houston area. In fact, at any given moment, there are 16,000 children involved in CPS-related cases, over 1,000 of which are removed from their homes under emergency situations. The Need
